INSPECTION CRITERIA FOR WEB SLINGS
Surface and Edge Cuts
WHAT TO LOOK FOR
Broken 昀椀bers of equal length indicate that the sling has been cut by an edge. Red
core warning yarns may or may not be visible and are not required to show
before removing slings from service. It is important to understand that all of the
昀椀bers in web slings contribute to the strength of that sling.
TO PREVENT
Always protect synthetic slings from being cut by corners and edges by using cut
protection.

TO PREVENT
For 1-ply and 2-ply web slings, never place a sling eye over a hook or other
attachment whose diameter or thickness exceeds 1/3 of the eye length or
1/4 of the eye length for 3-ply and 4-ply slings.
SUGGESTED LIFT-ALL PRODUCT: GripHook®
Instead of using slings on the forks of a forklift, use Lift-All’s GripHook. See the Sling Protection
section in this catalog for more sling protection options.
